| For those of you who know me, you will find it interesting that as a child I dreamed of becoming a HARLEM GLOBE TROTTER. As you ask yourself, “WHAT??? The prissy girl isn’t athletic at all, how did that come about?” Well, my mom bought my first pair of white tube socks topped off with red & blue rings and red satin shorts when I was about 8 yrs old. Is it obvious that I grew up in the ‘70’s? My dad installed a home-made backboard for my basketball goal in our backyard because the ones purchased at the store were “cheaply made and wouldn’t hold up”. Yes, this white girl from Mississippi, who had no clue how to play basketball (and still doesn’t) was going to be a Globe Trotter. Just a couple of problems with this dream. First, the extent of my basketball abilities consists of “granny throws” while playing HORSE. Second, (and most importantly because I could have learned the rules of the game) you get sweaty playing sports and that just wasn't for me. Needless to say, I scratched that thought.
To further emphasize my lack of sporty-ness, my best friend from Jr. High, Liz, and I decided we needed to play a sport. So we picked the tennis team because there were some cute guys on the team. Let's see...how do I put this nicely.... they had an A Team and a B Team... they invented a C Team for Liz and I--that way we could still come to practice, and not have to play in a real game~~~hilarious~~~a bit offensive, but hilarious none the less. I will go on to say that in high school, I was on the dance team--does that count as a sport? I prissed around in cute outfits, but I did get sweaty.

| Years later, I met a wonderful Christian guy. I was only 18 when we decided to get married. Let’s just say that didn’t go over too well with the folks (MY FOLKS). They had their own dreams of me finishing college and I promised I would. I really don’t think they believed me when I told them I would finish. This made me determined to do it that much more. I was so proud when I graduated from Ole Miss a few years later. My major was Art History (with some Interior Design sprinkled in) and my minor was English Literature. It was hard work, but I learned so much about myself during those years.
~TIP: if you are going to college, and have never taken a foreign language before, DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT take French. It is a beautiful language indeed, but 4 consecutive semesters of it was…hmm, how you say… tre dificile.

| I have always loved the arts and if you are saying, “Oooo, with a degree in Art History, I bet she took an interesting job out of college.” Oh yeah, I applied my art history and literature knowledge to a great job----my first REAL job out of college...I became an insurance adjuster. So I strayed from my passion of arts to pay the bills. It had great benefits, the people were fun to work with and the pay wasn’t too shabby, either. After several years of that, we had our baby, Morgan. OH MY WORD, if I had only known how much fun and joy she would bring to our lives, we wouldn’t have waited so long. We were married 13 yrs at this point.... our families had given up on us. I worked for a couple of months after maternity leave, and decided that I wanted to be there for EVERYTHING, and not hear about it from her nanny. I feel completely blessed to have the opportunity to be able to stay home with her. When she was a year old, I had the idea to start a monogramming/embroidery business. This dream was a little more realistic than the Globe Trotter one. I almost passed out the day I talked to my husband about it when he said “do it”. He has always supported me, but the financial investment part is what I expected to receive grief over. He never discouraged the idea, I DID IT, and haven’t looked back. Although I didn't become a GLOBE TROTTER, I have accomplished many goals & dreams...... and still working on a few.
